Job Opportunity: Project Coordinator, Grand Falls – Windsor

The Grand Falls-Windsor Steering Committee for WelcomeNL is seeking a Project Coordinator.


WelcomeNL is a project of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador, funded through the Labour Market Partnerships Program of the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour. The Project Coordinator will be an organized and detailed-oriented self-starter who works well independently as well as a part of a team. S/he will possess strong communication skills and will also be energetic, independent, flexible and motivated while requiring minimal supervision. The Project Coordinator will have experience working in multicultural or intercultural settings and an interest in the settlement of newcomers in our region. An understanding of the current strategies related to immigration as well as existing settlement services in Newfoundland and Labrador would be considered assets.


Project coordinator duties include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Assisting to build an inclusive and welcoming community in collaboration with community-based partners and stakeholders to cultivate respect for cultural diversity;
  • Creating awareness of the benefits of diversity by supporting the education of various community members and sectors;
  • Working in collaboration with community partners to organize and deliver multicultural/diversity-themed events and programs in Grand Falls-Windsor;
  • Creating and delivering presentations for external and community events;
  • Attending and participating in community events to promote the WelcomeNL initiative;
  • Identifying emerging issues and best practices to be shared with community partners, and providing recommendations to improve existing programming;
  • Helping to connect newcomers to a wide array of existing community supports including language and employment services, child and youth supports, secondary/post-secondary institutions, professional and social services, volunteer programming, etc.;
  • Building an inventory of existing community services as well as identifying service delivery gaps that exist;
  • Participating in meetings, conferences and professional learning opportunities, as well as representing MNL/WelcomeNL as requested on committees and working groups;
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and statistics; and
  • Preparing the agenda and any necessary supporting materials for Committee meetings.


The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or will hold sufficient, relevant work and/or volunteer experience. The contract will be until March 31 2020 and the position will require 35 hours per week. Some flexibility and occasional weekend/evening work may be required. Salary to be discussed.
